Our 3rd Annual Community & Unity People’s Kite Festival was held on May 13, 2023, at the Los Angeles State Historic Park, next to Chinatown. This family-friendly cultural festival brought together diverse communities in Los Angeles through the art of kites and a day of joyful connection in this important public green space.
This all-ages celebration was free and open to the public. Attendees spent the day flying kites, learning new flying techniques from Kite Masters, enjoy a “gallery in the sky,” and participated in art-making workshops that explored the natural environment, and met local community organizations.
Each year Clockshop commissions an artist to design unique kites that will be unveiled at the event. The 2023 Kite artist was Misa Chhan. Chhan explores natural dyes and fibers as a medium to engage with and learn from the natural world. Chhan’s kites reminded us that when we begin to see land as a community rather than a commodity, we learn to value it with more love and respect.
